It seems timely to talk about ways to seriously strengthen our health and resilience right now.
Managing stress is definitely key for strengthening your immune system.
As I discussed recently, minimizing overwhelm is part of managing stress.
Today, I want to talk about what a HUGE difference eating/ drinking healthy can make. This is something we can control even when so much feels out of our control.
Now may be a particularly good time to focus on preparing healthy meals.
It can make a massive difference in your health and how you feel.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that I have experienced tremendous health and wellness benefits from changing my eating.
I often mention the freedom from pain and inflammation. I was able to quit taking various medications for pain and inflammation.
My mental clarity is WAY better and my sleep went from bad to good.
I especially appreciate how I got back the ability to walk very easily again, the loss of which was very painful for many years. In so many way, I really got my life back! All I got ALL these health benefits from changing my eating and my drinking.
But, I want to talk about another big health improvement I experienced, and I’ve observed with others adopting this way of eating. I don’t mention it as often, but I am sure appreciating it right now– I have experienced a huge improvement in my resilience and immune response.
Now, I think people often don’t mention this improvement related to their eating because it requires noticing an ABSENCE of something. Specifically, you have to recognize that you haven’t gotten sick lately.
I’ve discovered this has been true for so many people who changed their eating this way and, in my case, this change was VERY noticeable.
For many years before I changed my eating, I was quite ill with viruses several times every year.
About every 3 months, I got a cold, and this went on for many, many years.
Increasingly, almost every cold became severe. They almost always knocked me out of work for many days and it took WEEKS for me to feel better.
Furthermore, it became increasingly true that almost every cold resulted in an aggravated condition such as bronchitis or ear infection.
In fact, I started developing serious enough ear infections that I even experienced major hearing loss a couple of times. I even had to have surgery to have tubes put into my ears.
Now, all those viruses occurred when I was eating something closer to the standard American diet.
I have to tell you, though– I didn’t THINK I was eating the Standard American Diet; in fact, I thought of myself as eating pretty healthy.
After all, I ate more vegetables than the average person. And I felt very aware of all the times I said no to lots of junky stuff I saw other people eating.
But, now I realize I wasn’t eating well ENOUGH to get great results.
Although I felt I ate vegetables pretty well, I now realize I wasn’t eating nearly enough of the highly nutritious foods.
And, although I knew how often I turned down something junky, I now realize I was still eating more highly processed stuff than I wanted to admit, including chocolates and crunchy salty snacks.
I was drinking too much wine, too, like so many other intelligent, successful, professional women.
Since I made serious and specific changes to the way I eat, I don’t think I’ve had more than one cold in the past 3 years. And that cold, if it was a cold, was so mild as to be hardly noticeable.
Do you know what that means??
As I see it, it means I have cut my viral infections to about one-tenth what they used to be. Heck, one-half would have been worth the trouble, but one-tenth represents A MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT IN MY HEALTH!
And this is just one big indication that changing my eating and drinking has vastly changed my health.
I’m so aware that my body is SO much happier with the way I’m eating, and I enjoy eating this way every single day!
