We’ve been exploring the idea of a one-word theme for the year, a word that captures how you want this year to go, maybe a shift or a transformation toward a direction that better serves you and your life.

I’ve been enjoying hearing some of yours!

Trudy is focusing on Alignment, and Mary is focusing on Integrity.  Coleen chose “Strength,” which is partly a health focus, and a very particular one!  And Nichole chose “Care.”

As you can see, a one-word theme can lead to a particular focus for the year.

And focus matters!

And we’ve also been talking about how you can SHOW UP to improve your chances of achieving that transformation you seek.

So, I wanted to share with you one way of showing up that my clients have found really helped them achieve breakthrough results with healthy eating and weight loss.

I mean people achieve dramatic and important results eating this way, like eliminating pain and inflammation, healing your brain and hormone functioning, improving your mood, your calm, your sleep and your energy.

And, once you learn to eat this way (I call it Happy Body Eating), it becomes surprisingly easy and effortless and enjoyable to eat this way and just get easy weight loss results. You can truly get all the way to your slender, right-sized body, without starving or suffering.

To get those big results, it really helps to show up with a Beginner’s Mindset.

It MUST be true that I was misunderstanding something about how to eat to be healthy and release excess weight.

Maybe some of the things I believed about eating and weight loss were largely correct, but I was missing some subtlety about how to implement them.

Maybe some of the things I knew about eating and health and weight were just WRONG.

As a psychologist, I understand how our biased minds work.  And why it’s not easy to recognize when we’re misunderstanding something, or when something we believe is just wrong.

I mean, let’s face it, “I’m wrong” is not an easy conclusion for a human being!

But it had to be true that some of what I believed about eating and weight loss MUST be wrong, or I would be getting better results!

So I worked at cultivating a beginner’s mindset. And I approached the research on eating and health and weight with an open, curious mind.

“Let’s see what’s actually KNOWN about healthy eating

and health and weight loss.”

I wanted to know what was “known,” as in observed, with a scientific mind. When they used scientific methods, what did they observe about these connections?

When I did that, I did indeed discover that some of the understandings I had about eating and weight loss were off-base.

Some things I understood just lacked the depth and clarity for me to effective implement those principles enough to get results.

And SOME of what I learned from the research turned out to be completely at odds with what I knew, even some things I firmly and passionately believed just proved to be wrong.

It took me some time to learn the truth because my mind was full of biases.

But, as I started implementing the changes recommended by the research, I finally started getting consistent and important results.

Learning, and implementing, what works completely changed the whole game!

I have to tell you, everyone I’ve met has a mix of right ideas and ideas that are wrong or at least partly wrong.

As averse as we are to discovering we’re wrong about something, this is where we discover the big opportunities for finally having a breakthrough.

So, I discovered, it really helps when you approach the subject with an open, curious, beginner’s mind.

“Clearly, some of my understandings about how to eat are wrong.

Let’s see what I can learn from the science to finally do what WORKS.”
